Concussion Care
A concussion is a traumatic brain injury, and recovery can look very different from one person to another. Some people recover quickly, while others experience symptoms that persist for weeks or months. For some, concussion can be highly disruptive to daily life. It is important to have practitioners who understand the many ways concussion can affect a person and who can provide both support and rehabilitation along the way.
At Core Insight, our chiropractors provide gentle, individualized care for people recovering from concussion. Our approach focuses on the neck, head, and jaw (TMJ), which can all contribute to common post-concussion symptoms such as headache, neck pain, jaw pain, and dizziness. Using gentle, hands-on techniques, we work with the bones, joints, muscles, and soft tissues to help reduce tension, improve mobility, and support healthy circulation. Our goal is to help patients feel more comfortable, support their recovery, and guide them through a safe return to work, school, and play.
There are many important steps on the road to concussion recovery:
- Recognition
- Removal from play
- Rest and gradual exercise
- Referral
- Rehabilitation
- Recovery
- Return to work, school, or play
Once a concussion is recognized, the individual should be removed from play or activity and re-evaluated. Early guidance around rest and gradual exercise is important. When symptoms persist, referral for further assessment and rehabilitation may be needed.
Chiropractic care can play a supportive role in recovery by helping address neck-related symptoms, headaches, migraines, jaw tension, and other musculoskeletal complaints that may follow concussion. Our care is often provided alongside other therapies that support concussion recovery, including therapies for visual, oculomotor, and vestibular symptoms. By working collaboratively with other health professionals, our aim is to support recovery and help patients return more comfortably and confidently to their normal activities.
Our team of chiropractors has significant experience working with children, adults, and athletes. We value collaboration with other health care professionals to support patients recovering from concussion.
