As one of the oldest therapies in the world, acupuncture is a highly effective branch of Traditional Chinese Medicine. Encompassing a variety of modalities, acupuncture is much more then the use of needles, it also includes gua sha (skin scrapping), tui na (chinese massage), acupressure (surface stimualtion of acupuncture points which does not utilize needles) and cupping (creating local congestion to improve circulation and pain relief).
Acupuncture works by stimulating specific points on the body with extremely fine needles, pressure or herbs that invigorate the body’s immune system and intuitive healing mechanisms. Today’s acupuncture needles are single use, sterile, disposable and many are no thicker then a human hair.
Successful with numerous Western diseases, acupuncture is effective for much more then localized muskoskeletal aches and pains. It is now highly recommended for migraines, chronic back pain, gynacological complaints and much more. The World Health Organization has created an exhaustive list of syndromes that acupuncture has been documented to help.
